The Story Behind

Chain of Events

I originally painted Chain of Events as a mural to bring attention to the far-reaching impacts of plastic pollution on our ocean and all who depend on it.

Plastic pollution is overtaking and clogging our ocean waters, harming marine life at every level of the food chain. Many ocean creatures mistake microplastics for food, ingesting tiny, hazardous fragments that cannot be digested and may carry toxic chemicals through their bodies.

But this cycle does not stay in the sea. What begins on land eventually returns to it, affecting animals above the surface that rely on the ocean for food, including native seabirds such as the Brown Pelican, and ultimately, humans.

Through this piece, I want to remind people that plastic pollution connects us all. We are all part of the same chain of events, and we are all neck-deep in this together.

About the Artist

Griffin One

Griffin is an internationally recognized illustrator & muralist based out of Oakland, California, His work spans a variety of mediums, themes & surfaces. From the early days of the Graffiti & the aerosol mural scene ( back in the mid- ’90s, while living in Seattle, WA ), through the many cities, he's lived in until the present day -- Griffin remains an active innovator in the aerosol mural art & the live art festival scene at large.

Whether the final artwork is illustrative, abstract, or character-driven, his artistic style embodies a unique dreamscape story between time, function, the familiar, and the unknown! In his body of work, Griffin often infuses elements from our modern age with his love of nature, along with aspects of the Old World. Griffin's diverse themed signature dimensional approach, and creative exploration of imaginative possibilities, help to keep his work transformational, fun & timeless.
