"Having No Wings Is Just A Little Detail" by Chris Austin (Canada) shines a spotlight on the iconic Orca (Orcinus orca) and their vulnerable habitats.

Artist Statement

"My current series is inspired by his North American travels and more specifically the Pacific Northwest. The underlying theme that is present throughout each piece is the current climate crisis and the irreversible impact it has on wildlife. 'Having No Wings Is Just A Little Detail' depicts the Orca whale escaping and thriving in an otherworldly utopia, an environment that has been untainted and preserved in perfection."

About the Artist

Chris Austin

Chris Austin is a painter based in Toronto, Canada. His work utilizes a surrealist vision of the natural world to tell stories about significant encounters and incidents. A figure in a yellow rain slicker stands in for the viewer in several works, bearing witness to levitating sharks and marine life as they move through our world. The inexplicable nature of these scenes draws us into a world out of kilter, it's central figures displaced, and asks us to reflect on our own assumptions about the natural world.
