"I’m very happy to be working with PangeaSeed Foundation this year and raising awareness and funds for our oceans. I grew up in a beach town in North Carolina and the ocean is a huge part of my life. I am endlessly intrigued by the new and strange creatures humans are discovering as our technology improves and we are able to explore deeper and deeper to unlock the mysteries of our planet. In an alternate dimension, I studied marine sciences instead of going to art school. But here and now I am pleased to create art that celebrates marine diversity. I present a hopeful image of what a healthy ocean looks like while reminding people of a need to preserve and protect it."
- Jessica Hess -
Jessica Hess is a hyperrealist painter who grew up in the beach town of Wilmington, North Carolina. After seriously considering a career in the marine sciences, Hess eventually followed the call of the arts to the Rhode Island School of Design, where she earned a BFA in Illustration in 2003. Working with Pangea Seed has finally afforded her the opportunity to marry these interests. After a few years of living in the Northeast, she headed west to California in 2009. She and her better half are currently improving a creative commercial space in Oakland which now houses her art studio in a former barbershop. Hess has exhibited nationally and internationally and is represented by Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco and Plastic Murs in Valencia, Spain.
