Artist Statement

"When creating this piece, I wanted to show the human connection to the ocean and all of the life forms that inhabit it. The creatures that live in the ocean are so precious, and I feel that we as humans have a duty to protect these life forms at all costs. I chose to create this circular design, with a vintage diving helmet in the center, to bring to mind how our decisions can directly affect the circle of life in the sea. I chose to depict two whale sharks, the world's largest fish, alongside various species of coral. This is representative of all sea life, from the biggest creatures that grace the water's surface to the stationary seaweed and coral that grow across the ocean floor."
