The Story Behind

The Last Island

Are we an island on Earth?

Human life is nothing without nature. Yet we live as if we are isolated, thinking of ourselves as beings disconnected from the natural world.

When we mistreat the oceans, where thousands of species die or become trapped by the effects of our actions, we are ultimately killing ourselves. Even if we try to live apart, like independent islands, we cannot exist without the world around us.

It is the ocean that defines a rock as an island. Without the ocean, an island is only a lonely, lifeless rock. And without nature, human beings cannot exist either.

It is time to see ourselves as part of the environment and to care for it, because in doing so, we care for ourselves. Otherwise, we begin to die with it.

Save your life by saving the oceans.

About the Artist

DEIH

DEIH, also known as DEIH XLF, is an illustrator and mural artist from Valencia, Spain. A longtime member of the XLF Crew, he has been painting graffiti since the mid-1990s and continues to bring the same energy, curiosity, and devotion to his work today.

His practice explores the inner life: emotion, memory, perception, and the complex relationship between the self and others. Through his ongoing project *The Insider*, DEIH uses science fiction as a visual language to investigate personal truth, transforming internal conversations into vivid characters, worlds, and symbolic narratives.

For DEIH, drawing is both an act of creation and a way of understanding. His work reflects the many voices, feelings, and experiences that live within us, while asking how each person perceives reality differently and how we search for shared meaning across those differences.

At its core, DEIH’s art is about connection. He believes art can reveal the deeper processes of the mind, help us understand ourselves more fully, and create a meeting point between one person’s inner world and another’s.
