Kell Sunshine is a muralist, lettering artist & illustrator from the east coast of NZ with an huge appreciation for the magical, reciprocal relationships which connect Mama Earth’s inhabitants. Kell’s creative style is characterised by bright retro-fresh colour palettes and curvaceous forms, with a growing roster of soil-sorceress protagonists. The themes of her murals and artworks are rooted in ecological messaging, with an intention to coerce the viewer into sharing in her reverence for the natural world which supports us.
Kell loves to travel, and relishes in the regular opportunities which lead her to create work throughout NZ and the world. With a spirit that is shaped by environmental elements she is always eager to gather inspiration from foreign shores and will never stray too far from the ocean.
Kell’s portfolio of 13 years in the industry includes creating artwork for tarot cards, album covers, gig posters, t-shirts, jigsaws, beer labels, weddings, vehicles, store windows, skateboards, tea, chocolate, and more. Her highlight reel includes working with 250+ clients, and painted 50+ murals across NZ, Australia, Mexico, USVI, Greece and Indonesia. She has spoken at a handful of conferences including Typism – Gold Coast, 2018. She curated the 2017 activation of Sea Walls – Artists for Oceans Tairāwhiti NZ, bringing renown international artists together to paint 24 murals across the region with a focus on ocean conservation. In 2022 Kell attended an artist residency in Crete, Greece where she painted a mural in the streets of Heraklion. She is also one of 5 directing members of The League of Live Illustrators.
