Artist Statement

"Habitat loss, overfishing, invasive species, pollution, human interaction. These are the main contributors to the biodiversity loss we are currently experiencing in our oceans today. The oceans are vital to all life on this planet, and what happens underwater, affects us on land. Our current living trends will not be able to sustain a healthy habitat for the oceans if they continue the direction they are going. I made this print to show some of the impacts that biodiversity loss is causing.

The Heron in this painting represents humans and invasive species overfishing the native species, which causes a huge break in the ecosystem. The bleached coral is caused by rising water temperatures, another side effect of human interaction. Our current infrastructure and global consumerism are producing mass amounts of CO2 emissions, which directly relates to this rise in temperature. It is important for us as a species to identify these problems and come up with solutions and new ways of thinking to help curb the biodiversity loss before it's too late."

Artist Bio

The goal of David’s work is to create environments that exist beyond the parameters of our physical world. His style blurs the boundaries between what should and shouldn’t exist together by bringing subjects into surroundings that they wouldn’t normally interact with. These scenes are often combined with graphic colors and patterns in an effort to provide harmony and balance to the opposing forces. His aim is to create new relationships between the subjects and the viewer.
