"Eye of the Storm" by J.A.W. Cooper highlights marine ecosystem vulnerability and mass extinction of marine species.
Artist Statement
"The eye of a storm is the deceptively calm center of a hurricane, typhoon, tornado, or cyclone. From this vantage point, you can observe the rapidly approaching threat even if your immediate area appears stable and safe. Oceans may seem impossibly expansive but these ecosystems, which our lives depend on, are at great risk from pollution, habitat destruction, and overfishing. Will we be lulled into complacency or will we heed the many signs of the approaching storm and fight like our lives depend on it?" - J.A.W. Cooper
Artist Bio
J.A.W. Cooper was born in England, grew up in Kenya, Sweden, Ireland, and Southern California, and currently lives in smelly, smelly Los Angeles. Cooper's parents were freshwater ecologists and it is no surprise that an interest in the natural world is central to her artwork. Cooper works commercially in advertising for TV and movie campaigns to keep her continuously challenged and fulfilled – working as part of a larger team. In her "free time" Cooper is a profoundly creepy human being and absolutely loves making work as an illustrator/fine artist.
