Artist Statement
"It is always a pleasure working with PangeaSeed Foundation and supporting their cause to help save our oceans through ARTivism. This time I was compelled to do an illustration depicting the magnificent manta rays. I’ve always been fascinated by this graceful creature. Their underwater “flight” which can only be described as entrancing and surreal. So as a follow up to my previous edition with PangeaSeed, “Rising Hammerheads," again I wanted to depict both humans and in this case, manta rays, swimming in synchronicity, ascending to a brighter future."

About Manta Rays
For most of history, manta rays and devil rays weren't targeted by fisheries. However, in recent years they have become endangered due to rising demand for their gill plates, used in Chinese medicinal tonics. This practice is not traditional, and its purportedly detoxifying effects have not been backed by science.
In addition, manta rays are caught as bycatch by fishing operations targeting pelagic animals like tuna and billfish. They get entangled in large nets, further exposing them to the risk of extinction.
